A Perfect Guide to Applying for an Irish Student Visa from Laos

It’s June 17, 2024, and today I received my passport with my student visa. This journey has been a roller coaster ride—from applying to schools, taking English exams, collecting documents, and finally sending everything to Hanoi. There aren’t many guides on the internet for perfectly applying for an Irish student visa, but I hope this article helps everyone.

The Dream Begins

My dream of becoming an international student began before the pandemic in 2020. It was a mix of deciding which country was best for me. I considered Australia, Canada, and Germany, but I ultimately chose Ireland. My sister has lived there for over 20 years, and after talking to her, I realized Ireland was the best choice. This narrowed down my options, and I began searching for schools.

Finding the Right School

In February 2024, I started looking for schools, which felt like shopping for the right clothes within my budget. I had to consider many factors, especially my budget and long-term goals. I applied to three schools: Dublin City University, University College Dublin, and the National College of Ireland (NCI). These schools seemed like they would help me achieve my goals, especially with their IT courses, which I was excited about. Some schools also required application fees of 40-60 euros before assessing your application.

Choosing NCI

Eventually, I chose NCI because they offered me a scholarship of up to 4,000 euros and had great reviews online. I advise taking the time to research and weigh your options before deciding on a school. It’s very important. In the same month, NCI responded with additional requirements, including an English exam. Luckily, they accepted Duolingo, so I took the exam and scored 130/160. After submitting my results, NCI sent me a Conditional Offer, which would become unconditional after paying the tuition fee.

Paying the Tuition Fee

In March 2024, I collected my funds and paid my tuition fee via BCEL (Banque Pour Le Commerce Exterieur Lao Public). The process was smooth, and after sending the required invoices to NCI, they quickly replied with my Pre-Registration status as “place accepted without condition.” That’s when I started gathering documents for my student visa.

Gathering Documents and Applying for the Visa

My journey felt like a marathon. I needed patience and perseverance, especially since some documents had to be collected from the Philippines. I recommend reading the requirements on the Irish embassy website as it is very helpful: Irish Immigration. NCI also referred me to IDP Education, which helped me prepare my documents before lodging. They provide free assistance, and I highly recommend contacting them.

Submitting the Visa Application

By May 2024, I had completed all my documents and was ready to pay my visa fees. I found this website helpful, although it suggested calling the embassy in Hanoi. Communicating with the Vietnamese speakers due to phone signals in Laos was a bit challenging, but persistence paid off. I paid my visa fee at Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) near Patuxay Monument. To avoid issues with fluctuating exchange rates and fees, I paid 70 euros instead of the required 60 euros.

Final Steps

After paying my visa fee, I contacted the embassy in Hanoi for further instructions. They advised selecting a courier to lodge my visa, and I chose DHL to track my application status. I organized all my documents in a labeled A4 Large Capacity Transparent File Folder for easy access by the immigration officer. Following the instructions on the [Irish Immigration website], I sent my documents, which weighed 2.5 kg, via DHL in mid-May 2024.

Approval and Final Thoughts

In mid-June 2024, I received an email that my visa application was approved. They advised me to book a courier to pick up my documents. I requested the embassy to return only the important documents, such as my passport, original diploma, and transcripts, to lighten the return package. No biometrics or police clearance was required, making the process smooth.

I hope this article provides the perfect guide for applying for an Irish student visa from Vientiane, Laos. Best of luck on your journey!

Vientiane Laos To Udon Thani Thailand Entry/Exit Status 2022 (for LaoCals Kabayan)

From Vientiane to Nong Khai Border to Udon Thani

Hello everyone, backpackers, commuters, adventurers, or anybody you call yourself. As a traveler, I want to share with you the exit status from Vientiane to Udon Thani via bus.

What we did first was we rode a bus from Central Bus Station (paste in google map -> XJ78+94 Vientiane) at Talat Sao. You can order a ticket at the back for 47,000 LAK or 85 THB. After you have access the bus’s final destination is Udon Thani. No need for you to ride anything. They will wait for you from Nongkai Border and all you need to do is go for immigration, prepare immigration forms, line up and ride the bus again. Very convenient and very straightforward. We exit on Nov 7, 2022, we don’t pay anything we only pay the bus fees.

From Udon Thani to Nong Khai Border to Vientiane

When we go back from Udon Thani going to Vientiane we choose a separate route. Actually, you can buy a bus ticket in Udon Thani Bus Terminal 1 when you go back for (85 THB the same price)(paste it in google map -> CR32+65 Udon Thani, Mueang Udon Thani District, Udon Thani, Thailand). Because the time is not aligned with our visit there, we choose to ride a van. It cost 55 THB to ride a van from Central Plaza Udon to Nong Khai Border ONLY. After immigration, you need to ride another bus and pass by the friendship bridge for 35 THB. If you bring a lot of baggage the transfer is quite a hassle. Then after you finish and clear all the immigration requirements, you need to find arrange a ride going to back to Vientiane. It’s like a lot of steps to do but it’s adventurous (If you are hehe). Not unlike when you ride a bus your final destination is in Central Bus Station near Vientiane Center.

A Simple Explanation of Cryptocurrencies

Cryptocurrency is a better way

Cryptocurrencies are not controlled by an any organisation or individual.

We currently rely on banks to keep that ledger up to date. If the bank goes bust with our money on their ledger then we might well say goodbye to the money.

Certainly the bank will charge you (or the receiving party) for digitally transferring your money.

With a cryptocurrency everyone who uses the currency has a copy of the ledger. No one person or organisation is in control of the ledger.

All the currency rules and regulations are clearly defined and the currency system itself is open source. This means that everyone who is using the currency is controlling the currency, but there is nobody in charge. The cryptocurrency manages itself.

This sounds fantastically complicated – and it is, however just as you don’t need to understand how an iPhone works to gain great benefit from it, the same is true of cryptocurrencies, and they are getting more accessible with each forward step of the technology. Electroneum is one such step.

Why not use a bank?

Being able to transfer money to someone else without having to use a bank dramatically reduces the complexity and increases the speed of international transfers. This makes international trade easier and cheaper.

With the amount of fraud that is reported online people are fearful of entering their financial information to make purchases, especially for small, low cost items. Cryptocurrencies can be anonymous, and protect the payor and payee.

There are over a billion people in the world that do not have access to a bank, and yet they have access to the internet. There are over 2 billion people in the world without a bank account, and mobile devices and internet access is growing fast.

Why use a cryptocurrency?

Store value securely, privately and digitally.

Move that money around the world almost instantly with zero cost. There are over 210 million people who use PayPal to make internet transactions 1 – even though they have a working bank card that they could use to make the payment directly.

They chose PayPal for additional security and convenience. Cryptocurrencies offer a high level of security and anonymity without requiring a bank to be involved.

Novotel Experience

Sometimes I wonder why I am here at Coast. Do I have a mission here? A purpose to be done? Or, just to take my prize because I won on this competition. I have lots of doubts and questions in my mind and I can’t blame myself thinking that way, especially when I’m ALONE. I woke up on my bed and fixed myself then try to look around in the resort. Ohhh! It’s almost 7:30 in the evening and I forgot to eat my dinner, but I’m not hungry. I walk downstairs and I passed on the lobby I’m just like an innocent child that no one knows me and vice versa. I got my free drinks on the Aqua and I sat down on the bench near in the beach. I have heard the murmurs of children on my back but still I ignored. They play happily at night. I look up the stars above and that’s the beginning of my self reflection.

I wonder why I am here at Coast. Do I have a mission here? A purpose to be done? Or, just to take my prize because I won on this competition. Maybe I can answer this question soon.

On the other hand I had a great time at Novotel Resort Twin Waters. The resort is very beautiful and family friendly. I got homesick at night and for me it’s normal because I’m alone enjoying =)
Early in the morning I have meet Cheryl, Dennis and Cheryl’s Mom. We had a great breakfast together and I really pleased to talk them. We went also to Cheryl’s house and it is very beautiful. I have met my dream house and the life that I aim someday. A happy family, beautiful house, romantic spa pool and a very clever dog. I enjoy talking to them and it’s a self-fulfilling day to start with a big smile.

I went to the beach and the weather is very kind. The wave of the sea is very attractive. FANTASTICOAST!

Imbil Bush Cabin Retreat

2nd day at Gleny’s house: Everything is fine and I still enjoy my stay here at Coast. I have enjoyed watching Hunter Games last night with Michael and Megan. This is my first time also to watch movie here at Coast and I admire the brilliant author of the book “Suzzane Collins”. It’s my first time also to watch movie that I’m not talkative with my seatmate Megan and I concentrate attentively watching every scene. After we have watched the movie, while we walked going to the car, we have loud conversation about the film and the story plot. So I’m excited to read the next book of mocking jay and catching fire by Suzzane Collins.

On the other hand I will go to Bear Woods Imbil this afternoon and I woke up early in the morning to prepare myself in an adventurous and exciting retreat. Gleny lift me and drive to BP Forest Glen then Mick and his wife drive me going to the next venue. Thanks for Gleny, Mick and his wife.

At last we arrive to the venue and Ian the owner brought me to my bush cabin. I really impressed with the place it just like I’m in the camping area. I was surrounded by the green trees in the forest and I remember the hunger games movie weeeee! I remember when I was in high school, we have a tree house and every time I have done something wrong to my family I used to stay at the tree house and reminisce what I have done. 😀

Ian brought me in the near river here at Imbil for my kayaking experience, I’m very much excited with quite a little bit nervous. We have 8km kayaking in the river and we will finish it for about one and a half hours. As the kayaks landed in the water, I always keep in my mind that I will take a good balance for myself with the kayaks so that it will not give a big trouble. I enjoy my practice in the river and as we get started moving, I saw fast current of water approaching me. “Keep paddling and keep the kayak straight Adrian” Ian shouted. In suddenly, bugsssss blorrp shhhhhhhh!, I get out in my kayak and hold on the lying branches of the trees that blocks the river. I move out of balance and fall to the water. I tried a second time then I have learnt to operate and balance myself with the kayak. It’s very funny huh! Haha! Second time is really good for me. I learnt that I need to burned out all negative thoughts and release all the tensions to succeed.

After eight hours of kayaking we went back to the cabin and prepare my burger meal. I’m so very tired and exhausted that’s why I need to replace my energy thru eating food and sleeping. At around 5pm I move up to Ian’s house to join them for a dinner and we talk about things in life and shared unforgettable experience. We have also a little cheers of beer & wine, with his wife and I have a great time with them. It’s nice to meet nice people and share your experience to them at the same time learnt from their experience. If I will come back at Coast, I will come back here at Bearwoods with my friends. It’s a nice place and nice people. TGFETYHDFM!
