SEARCH FOR THE WORLD’S STAR STUDENT

THE World’s Best Job may have been filled but another equally amazing opportunity has just opened up on the Sunshine Coast.

The World’s Best Study Adventure, a social media competition in the style of Tourism Queensland’s famous 2009 campaign, has been launched by Sunshine Coast Education.

The search began on Friday to find an international student with a yearning for learning and urge to study on the Coast for seven weeks, all the while taking in and promoting our best attractions to the rest of the world.

As many as 50,000 students are expected to log on to the competition’s website between now and the closing date next month.

SunEd secretary Anne Jacobson said responses had already been received from Chile, Peru, Canada and Korea.

“We’ve already seen some videos uploaded to the site and we’re hoping a lot more will come through now that the word is out,” she said.

“The whole aim of the competition is to position the Sunshine Coast as a leading education tourism destination.”

As with the TQ campaign, the winner will promote the Coast and its attractions to the rest of the world via blogs and YouTube.

“They’ll be filmed doing things like going to Australia Zoo, or having a diving lesson or learning to surf,” Ms Jacobson said.

Judges will be looking for someone who wants to try different things and experience what the Coast has to offer.

“We’ve got so much here that we want to promote,” Ms Jacobson said.

“It’s going to help the economic development of the Sunshine Coast by having education tourism.

“When students come to stay they spend quite a lot of money and bring family and friends to study here as well.

“We also know if local businesses want to get involved, it’s a great way for them to be promoted both locally and internationally.”

It is being run in partnership with the council and major corporate sponsors Sunshine Coast Destinations and Queensland Rail.

The competition is open to anyone, anywhere in the world (except Australia) who is available to study here for seven weeks.

It closes August 19, with the winner announced September 1.
